a few anglers coming back with catfish pushing 12 lbs.
“ Most anglers are using anchovies, but you can also catch them on nightcrawlers or mackerel also,” said Cody McGarry of the Rocky Mountain Recreation Company.“ Catfish are being caught mainly around the dam. Make sure you fish around fallen trees or weed beds, since most catfish love cover.”
Big fish honors go to Reese Peck of Livermore, who caught one catfish weighing 12 pounds. Robert Jesse of

Livermore landed two catfish weighing up to 10 pounds.
“ Anglers have been seeing some stripers boiling on bait, but by the time they get within casting range, the boil is over,” he tipped.“ Your best bet to catch a striper would be to use bait, either anchovies or chicken liver. Most stripers are hanging out around rocky points in about the 15 to 20 ft. of water.”
Black bass are a good prospect this time of year. Most anglers like to use soft plastics, including swim baits, Robo Worms or Senkos.
“ I would also recommend using either a crank bait or a top water lure( Heddon Spook, Pencil Poppers, etc.) Look for fallen trees, rocky points and tule patches,” he tipped.

“ The weather this week here at Lake Del Valle has been beautiful for fishing. Temperatures range from mid 60s In the morning up to the low 80s throughout the day. The water temperature is still slowly dropping,
SACRAMENTO RIVER KING SALMON! sitting at 70 degrees this week, which is good news for fishing,” added McGarry.
LAKE DON PEDRO
Cooler Weather Should Improve Trout & Salmon Action
LA GRANGE- Trout and salmon fishing has been slow at Lake Don Pedro as the water level continues to drop, but better action is expected as the water temperature cools down this autumn.
Monte Smith of Gold Country Sportfishing, who guides for rainbows, kings and kokanee on the reservoir, hasn’ t fished the lake for over a month and is now concentrating on salmon fishing on the Sacramento River after experiencing great action on rainbows on his latest trout adventure to New Melones. He hasn’ t heard of any of his friends going to Don Pedro lately, either.
Trolling for trout should improve as the surface water temperature cools with the fall weather and the fish move from deep water into the shallows. Bank fishing with nightcrawlers, PowerBait and other enticers will also improve as the lake begins to turn over.
The bass bite is also tough at Don Pedro. Fish jigs or shakey heads on the bottom for the best success on largemouth and smallmouth bass. For the top action, look for schools of shad on your depth finder target those areas.
Don Pedro was at 83 percent of capacity at last report, but the latest conditions weren’ t posted on the CDEC website.

EAGLE LAKE
Trout Bite Ramping Up … Hot Fall Fishing Expected!
SPALDING- Anglers fishing Eagle Lake this week have experienced mixed results. Some trouters are spanking quality fish, while others are stalled catching planters or worse, catching nothing at all. Yet now is not the time for distress. Keep your hook sharp and your eye on the prize, because epic fall action will be center stage soon.
One prominent guide told me that he he’ s only fished a few times recently and that the fish he caught on his last two trips were all planters in the one-pound class.
Bryan Roccucci of Big Daddy’ s Guide Service predicts great fall fishing will break loose at Eagle soon.
“ I’ ve had a couple buddies fish Eagle in recent days and they caught rainbows to 23 inches. They said the bite wasn’ t easy but the fish were nice,” said Roccucci.
You can catch fish a variety of different ways at this point. First, you’ ll want to stay in the southern basin. You can work the top 20 early, but as the sun climbs drop down 20 to 40 feet deep. You can work shallower later into the morning if there is chop on the water,” he tipped.
If you want to troll fast, pull Rapalas or Speedy Shiners. If slower is your style, pull an orange Needlefish or a Red Dog.
As fall proceeds the bite is only going to get better. To enjoy the best fishing, a trip during late October or early November is a good bet.

EAST DELTA
Bass Pros Bring In Big Bags
STOCKTON- Largemouth bass remain the top species in the San Joaquin-Delta, and in addition to striped bass, catfish, and bluegill, salmon have been showing up in increased numbers off of Humphrey’ s Pier in Antioch.
Dan Mathisen of Dan’ s Delta Outdoors in Oakley said,“ A combined 45-pound limit took the two-day California Delta Team Tournament Trail event out of Russo’ s Marina this past weekend with the team of Bobby Barrack and Don Fonte taking first place with a 26-pound limit on Sunday with fish from 4.78 to 7 pounds.”
“ Everyone is using vibrating baits with Rat-L-Traps and Eco-rigs along with punching the weeds and jigs. There are a lot of striped bass in Frank’ s Tract with a couple of packs of good fish hanging around. The boat traffic really puts them off of the bite, but there is a good bite with topwater in the mornings along with Optima’ s Bad Bubba Shad swimbaits. Live bluegill caught in the area are becoming highly sought striper candy as the panfish are plentiful with red worms,” said Mathisen.
“ There are plenty of 2- to 4-pound catfish on various cut baits are keeping the bells a
