Get Serious With Gold Star
Dodgers For Trout And More!
D
odgers do three things that attract
fish and trigger strikes. They
create vibration
and flash. And
they can impart
an erratic surg-
ing motion to
lures and baits,
depending on
how far you rig
them behind the
dodger.
Over the past
several years
by Cal Kellogg
I’ve found myself running herring dodgers
from the Gold Star/Silver Horde line up
more and more.
Gold Star dodgers
feature quality hard-
ware and consistent
performance.

Try A Tasmanian Devil For
Collins Lake Trout!
T
he Tasmanian Devil Lure came to
life in the late ‘70’s when the Wig-
ston Family of Australia decided to market
the lure that they first began developing in
the early ‘60’s.
Tasmanian Devil lures are hard to cate-
gorize. They aren’t really a plug and they
certainly aren’t a spoon either.
What is certain is that the lures have a
seductively erratic action that mimics the
movements of a panicked baitfish well.
The lures aren’t painted. Instead the color
is locked between the layers of clear plas-
tic that make up the lure body. This way
the colors never get dull or chipped.

The lures work great when trolled and
they are even deadlier when casted and
retrieved. Tasmanian Devils are very
aerodynamic so they cast easily. On the
retrieve, imparting a few twitches of the
rod tip causes the lure to dip, dive and
act generally wounded. This is the kind
of abrupt movement that triggers strikes
from predatory gamefish particularly fish
like trout and landlocked salmon that prey
of baitfish such as shad and pond smelt.

qualified for the End-of-year championship
event to be held on Collins Lake November 4
and 5th, you need to hurry and make sure to
get registered for the “BIG SHOW” that will
see one of the event’s qualifiers drive away
with a new 14 foot Tracker V-Hull boat, with
9.9 hp Mercury motor, and matching trailer
valued at over $5,000!
And with Collins lake water levels up the
way they are, it’s a safe bet that the fishing
in this year’s championship event will not
disappoint.
Remember, if you finished in the top 50 in
any one of the five events held this year, you
automatically qualify to participate in this
year’s championship event - but if qualifiers
have not RSVP’d before the deadline of Oct
1st, we will fill the field with those “next in
line” that participated in any of the events.
For all of 2017, Gone Fishin’ Marine of
Dixon, one of NTAC’s premier sponsors, has
been supporting the anglers that support this
series, and will be doing it in an even bigger
way for this championship event as this year’s
qualifying anglers will fish for a new 14 foot
Tracker V-Hull boat, with 9.9 hp Mercury mo-
tor, and matching trailer valued at over $5,000
courtesy of Mark Blanton and the entire Gone
Fishin’ Team.
And don’t forget....the top 25 kids from each
event also qualify to win their own grand prize
that consists of a brand new Sea Eagle inflat-
able boat valued at over $1
