FRESHWATER

YUBA CITY – The king salmon season has been a bust in the Colusa area of the Sacramento River this year, but the steelhead are beginning to show.
“ A local angler we call‘ Fuzzy’ and his friends landed two limits of steelhead to 5 pounds,” reported Pat Kittle of Kittle’ s Outdoors.“ They were drifting salmon roe on the gravel bars north of Colusa.”
The salmon fishing is tough at Knights Landing and Colusa, but some lucky anglers are still bagging fish. Leon Steppe landed a 23 inch striped bass while soaking anchovies, while Jared bagged a 16-1 / 2 lb. salmon on a bank fishing trip to Verona.“ The striper hit cut anchovies and the salmon hit a K-14 Kwikfish,” said Tim Boggs of Elkhorn Outdoors in Rio Linda.
Although catfish action in the
Knights Landing area is slowing down with the colder weather, bank anglers are still catching some channel cats in the 2 to 4 lb. range. The fishing is best with mackerel and G & S Dip Bait off First Beach, noted Boggs.

DEL VALLE LAKE
Channel Cats Offer Top Sport
LIVERMORE – The hottest bite at Lake Del Valle has been for channel catfish, but it was a big striped bass that recent the catches.
Travis Doggett of Roseburg, Oregon landed a striper weighing 21 lbs, reported Cody McGarry at the Rocky Mountain Recreation Area.
“ Striper fishing have been slow this week with few anglers finding boils.,” said McGarry.“ Most of the stripers that have been caught have taken bait, either anchovies, chicken liver or sardines. Most anglers have been telling me to fish around rock walls and deep drop offs.” For catfish. most anglers have been fishing out towards the dam and in the upper narrows. Anchovies, nightcrawlers and sardines are the top baits.
Joe Luat of Hayward and John Lewis of Modesto each caught one catfish weighing 8 lbs.
“ The water temperature is sitting at 61 degrees this week, making it difficult to catch trout,” said McGarry.“ Some anglers have had luck on PowerBait and Power Eggs. I would also recommend either drifting Mice Tails or using small spinners and Kastmasters. Most trout are going to be around sandy beaches and shallow points.”
“ Black bass are a good target this time of year,” he added.“ Most anglers like to use soft plastics such as swim baits, Robo Worms, and Senkos. I would also recommend using either a crankbait or a top water lure like a Heddon Spook or Pencil Popper. Look for fallen trees, rocky points and tule patches.”
EAGLE LAKE
Trolling Flies Top Offering For November Trouters
SPALDING- The fall fishing season is peaking at Eagle Lake. The bite isn’ t wide-open, but it’ s pretty darn good for fish that range up to 5 pounds.
Overnight temperatures have been on the plunge in the Eagle Lake area. If you head up that way and plan on camping be prepared for temps dipping down into the lower 20’ s.
For the past 10 days, the bite was a bit hit and miss due to an abundance of shrimp spawn along the shoreline of the southern basin. The shrimp larva look like applesauce in the stomachs of the trout and when they are full of immature shrimp, they aren’ t too enthusiastic about chasing lures.
Currently recent winds have broken up the shrimp spawn and the trout are once again targeting baitfish. The best option for trollers working the south basin is pulling dark

3623 colored trolling flies near the surface in water that ranges from 8 to 15 feet deep.
If you’ re an angler that prefers pulling hardware, there have been reports of fish coming on Rapalas, Needlefish and Ex-Cels. A variety of colors are working. Traditional Eagle Lake red and / or orange patterns are drawing strikes, but natural minnow colors are working too.
