Trout Bite for Trollers,
Bank Anglers
CHESTER - “I had a vacation
week schedule last week, so I
put the camper on the truck and
grabbed my dog Jake for a road
trip up to Lake Almanor. This is a
trip I take just about every winter
or early spring and I’ve caught
some really nice trout while bank
fishing at the lake,” related Doug
Alison.
“I tried a few different areas of
the lake, but the coves near the
Canyon Dam launch ramp were
the best. In three partial days of
fishing I landed 5 rainbows and 1
brown trout. The biggest fish was
a 3.92 pound rainbow. I caught
one trout on a gold Kastmaster,
but the rest of the action came on
inflated worms fished about 20
inches off the bottom,” said Alison.
“Almanor isn’t the easiest lake
to fish, but whenever I head up
there I feel like I have a chance at
hooking a really big fish. I pulled
a 7 pound rainbow out of the lake
two years ago during a winter
trip,” Alison concluded.
Reports from trollers have been
few and far between recently.
Speedy Shiners and other spoons that can be
trolled quickly seem to be the top option for
boaters.
Captain Bryan Roccucci hit Almanor
two weeks ago and hooked several
trout to 3.5 pounds on custom
painted plugs.
The trout
were a
mix of
browns and
rainbows.
