plugs,” said Roccucci.
“ Ever get the feeling that you are the only boat on the lake? Well that is an everyday occurrence right now, we are not seeing many people on the water. Currently we are getting a pretty good whack from the weather man which is a good thing for the up-coming water year, more snow pack means more cool water flowing into the lakes which means better fishing. Lake Almanor is just getting started and the fishing will continue to expand from good to over the top as we move further into the year. June today about getting you dates secured for this exciting fishery,” Roccucci concluded.
Shore anglers like boaters have been few and far between during the recent period of stormy

AMADOR LAKE
Anglers Battle Husky Rainbows, Heavy Plants Continue
IONE – The lake management has stocked a total of 26,850 pounds of rainbow trout since October, with the latest plant of 2400 pounds boosting angling success on Lake Amador.
Anglers reported bagging some hefty trout over the past couple of weeks. Shore anglers are experiencing the top action while tossing out PowerBait, Kastmasters and jigs at the dam, spillway, and Rock Creek. Boaters are hooking trout while trolling with broken-back firetiger Rapalas in Mountain Springs, Rock Creek, and the Jackson Creek arm.
Dan Johnson from Ione landed an 8.5 lb trout measuring 27 inches long while shore fishing with green PowerBait. Brad Durst from Sacramento caught a 4.50 lb. trout off the dock using chartreuse PowerBait.
Chris Goggin of Placerville landed his limit of trout, topped by a 6.80 lb. beauty. He bait fished with PowerBait and trolled a firetiger Rapala in the back of the lake for his fish.“ Anthony Greene, Jeff Smith, and Allan Soliven from Sacramento caught their limits of trout on a trip to the lake,” said Elizabeth Lockhart of the Lake Amador Resort.“ They were using PowerBait, and stated the fish were everywhere. They threw about 10 more back and lost a few. It was a great day of fishing.”
Finally, 7-year-old William from Roseville caught a 5.96 lb. rainbow on chartreuse
PowerBait up at Rock Creek.
The lake level is rising with the arrival of recent storms, with the lake rising to just one foot from full at press time.
AMERICAN RIVER
Anglers Target Late Run Steelhead, Get Ready for Shad
SACRAMENTO- There just isn’ t much fishing taking place on the American River now. Anglers are picking up a few steelhead throughout the river and the shad run will begin in early May.
The Nimbus Fish Hatchery staff has finished spawning steelhead this season, reported Gary Novak, hatchery manager.
The hatchery trapped a total of 544 steelhead this season, including 20 wild fish and 26 juveniles. That comes out to 498 adults.
The fish that showed this year were from the year class that the hatchery had to release early during the drought, due to water temperature problems at the facility.
The hatchery has at least 1.2 million eggs, more than enough to meet their production goal of 440,000 yearlings.
The CDFW planted their total of 212,000 steelhead yearlings into the river in February.
The Bureau of Reclamation ramped water releases from Nimbus Dam into the American River from 2,500 cfs to 1,750 cfs on March 2 and 3. The reason?“ Storage conservation, ramping down to February FMS flow,” said Reclamation spokesperson Peggy Manza.
