Trinity Lake was starting to improve when another storm front moved into the region , turning the bite off .
“ The bass fishing has started up multiple times ,” said Tim Brady of Trinity Outdoors . “ There will be a nice week of weather when the action improves and then another storm front moves in and slows the bite down .”
Anglers fishing the lake lately have been using an array of baits , ranging from Ned rigs to swimbaits , to catch smallmouth and largemouth bass to 7 poumds .
Spring is also a good time to fish for rainbow trout in the mouths of the tributaries , including the Upper Trinity , East Fork , Stewarts Fork and Swift Creek . Anglers should employ Power Bait , salmon eggs , marshmallows and other baits for a mixture of planted , holdover and wild rainbows .
Brady said the fishing for kokanee and king salmon has been slow lately on
the lake , although it should improve soon . Trollers find the best kokanee and king

best known for their complaint that “ We keep getting richer But we can ’ t get our picture On the cover of the Rolling Stone .”
You may have wondered what it takes to get your picture on the cover of the Fish Sniffer , or even into its pages . We ’ ve published pictures of fish much smaller than yours , while yours never saw the light of day . Something ’ s fishy .
Not so . Here are some tips toward getting your angling picture published . Keep

it fishy and you ’ ve bettered your chances . Fill the frame with the fish and the angler , and eliminate the beer cans and candy wrappers . Best , but not always possible , is a picture taken on the water . Next best has water in the background . If you can ’ t do that , at least get close in to the side or back of the boat . Pictures of fish lying on asphalt or on a grassy lawn are not likely to make the cut .
Focus on the angler . Try to keep him or her out of direct sun so you won ’ t deal with dark shadows . Have them face the light , but keep your shadow out of the shot . Push back their cap so the visor doesn ’ t cast a shadow , or take off the hat completely .
If you gaffed the fish , turn it so the injury doesn ’ t show . And rinse all blood off the fish . Think of your audience . I once submitted a photo of myself holding a 40-some pound lingcod by my fingers in its eye sockets . Hey , it works , but nobody likes to see it , as I learned the hard way .
Have the angler hold the fish so the sunlight gleams off it a wee bit . If it ’ s a flatfish , you ’ ll usually want to show the white underside , but if your model wears all white – you be the judge .
Unless you ’ re trying to get a laugh from us , don ’ t have the angler hold a tiny fish at arm ’ s length in front of him . But if you have a wide-angle lens , practice getting up close to the fish , then backing off the lens so you have the angler in the frame .
Experiment with different angles , remembering that different species have different “ good sides .” Showing just the head of a lingcod , cabezon , or wolf eel can be brilliant .
Get down . Shoot up . I have lain in a puddle on the ground to shoot up at a fish on the hoist , an inconvenience that paid off in a cover shot . The fish filled the frame and the angler alongside looked every inch a hero .
Shoot several poses . Then shoot several more . Make sure the boat antenna doesn ’ t pop from your angler ’ s forehead .
Eventually Dr . Hook and his band made the cover they coveted , but the picture was a drawing , not a photograph , and the caption read “ What ’ s-Their-Names Make the Cover .” You can do better than that .
Camera in hand , I ’ ll be looking for you on the banks .
