“Sexy Dexy” Miguel of Union City landed
his limit of trout on a Cordell lure. He was
trolling from his kayak on the backside of
Horseshoe Lake. Elix Robles of San Jose
caught a five-pound trout on a night crawler
while fishing along Fishermen’s Row.
Cecil Ortiz of San Leandro bagged a
13-pound catfish while using a plastic worm
along Fishermen’s Row.
Note that the use of lead fishing tackle
is prohibited at Quarry Lakes. You can
exchange lead tackle at the kiosk in a “1 for
1” trade for stainless steel weights.
REDDING/RED BLUFF
Very Good Trout Action Awaits
Sac River Anglers
REDDING - If you enjoy catching wild
rainbows, this is the time to book a trout
fishing adventure on the upper reaches
of the lower Sacramento River between
Redding and Red Bluff. The bite is
outstanding for trout in the 12 to 20 inch
class.
“The trout fishing has been good for
rainbows in the 17 to 18 inch class and
some of the fish are even bigger. We’ve
been targeting the fish while back trolling
small Mag Lip plugs,” related Captain Mike
Bogue of Mike Bogue’s Guide Service.
On the fly fishing front, anglers are
utilizing indicators and long leaders to
present stonefly and mayfly nymphs along
with sucker spawn imitations.
The salmon season the Sacramento is
slated to kick on in mid-July. If you’d like to
hook up with a king or two once the season
gets going, you should start planning your
trip now as guides tend to be very busy
during the first couple weeks of the season.
There are several guides that routinely
fish the river for rainbows and kings. Mike
Bogue of Mike Bogue’s Guide Service and
Robert Weese of Northern California Guide
Service are two of the best. To reach Mike
Bogue, dial (530) 246-8457. To book a trip
with Weese give him a ring at (530) 755-
7196.
