Catfish are hitting early in the
morning, late in the afternoons and at
night in the Sacramento Deepwater
Channel. Gary Long landed four
catfish ranging from 2 to 4 pounds
while using sardines in the deepwater
channel.
“Our customers are concentrating
on catfish in the local ponds and
ditches such as the East Main Levee
Ditch,” said Uncle Larry Barnes at
Sacramento Pro Tackle. “Some locals
are also reporting catching catfish
up to 12 pounds in the deep holes of
Steelhead Creek near Discovery Park.
Anglers are doing best on anchovies
and nightcrawlers.”
Other fishermen are heading to
White Slough in the North Delta to
hook catfish on the same baits.
Bass fishing is also going
great on the Delta, as Alan Fong
of Fisherman’s Warehouse in
Sacramento reveals.
“The frog fishing has been really
good,” said Fong. “My last trip to the
Mokelumne River yielded a 22 lb. limit.
My fishing partner, Mason, and I caught
fish ranging from 2 to over 7 pounds,
with the average fish going 2-1/2 to
3-1/2 pounds. We used the new Booya
Frog in green with a white tail.”

Shoemaker.
Big fish honors go to Joshua of Las
Vegas, who caught a 13.5 lb. catfish

“For the catfish, use anchovies,
sardines, mackerel, chicken livers,”
