Charters has also been scoring fish at
the north end of the lake. For macks to 8
pounds Daniels is trolling deep water with
a combination of Kok-A-Nuts and Sling
Blades.
“My son and I took a trip up to Lake
Tahoe and fished for two days,” related Burt
Thompson of Thompson Outdoor Products.
“We spent some time jigging, but that didn’t
pay off for us. When we started slow trolling
we started hooking mackinaw right away.
Most of the fish were about 3 pounds,
but we got a variety of fish up to about 7
pounds. It was a lot of fun.”
“My son Jake got most of his fish on a
3 inch PowerBait minnow threaded and
trolled behind a white Silver Horde Dodger.
I used the same blade, but instead of the
PowerBait minnow I went with a blue and
white P-Line hoochie. Both rigs worked
well. I added crawfish Pro-Cure to both of
our dodgers and I’m sure that help us get a
few extra strikes. In all we landed 14 fish,”
said Thompson.
The team at Tahoe Sportfishing continues
to round up macks at the south end of the
lake mainly in the 3 to 6 pound class, but
larger fishing are showing up occasionally.
There have been few reports of kokanee
showing up, but anglers should start
hooking the diminutive salmon soon.
but what blew me away about the fish I
caught this week was their size. Both of
the stripers were over 20 pounds and I got
them on back to back casts first thing in the
morning. It was weird, I got the two biggest
stripers of my life on back to back casts and
didn’t hook another striper the entire day.
I caught the fish a bit after 6 o’clock in the
morning,” Richardi related.
In other news, sturgeon continue to
gobble roe and eel strips for anglers fishing
the lower reaches of the Sacramento River
and the upper reaches of Suisun Bay.
Striper trollers are picking up shaker and
keeper size stripers, but few people are
focusing on stripers at this time.
Black bass action is good for anglers
working topwaters early and punching with
creature baits later in the day. Most of the
bass being hooked are 1 to 2 pounds, but
fish up to 6 pounds have been reported.
Catfish are on the much in the usual
spots on night crawlers, livers, crawfish
meat and anchovies.

Shallow gentle sloping
sandy beaches with
current from wind or
the Carson River inlet
are good bets. For best
results, show up an hour
or two early and catch a
carp. Carp in Lahontan
are super plentiful. Carp
will eat night crawlers,
crayfish or corn. Filet the
carp into strips of carp
bacon, and then cast
out the tantalizing treat
on a 5/0 circle hook on
a 30-50-pound leader.
The big cats will bite from

RENO - The night bite for summer
catfish is by far the best game around in
Western Nevada at this time. Pretty much
every desert reservoir that features these
fish is fishing pretty well. Choices include
Lahontan, Rye Patch, Chimney Dam, Wall

lakes hold Channel Cats.
