VOL.37 • ISS. 17 HALF MOON BAY cont. Captain Pete sandwiched in 19 early limits of salmon off of the Pacifica Pier on Sunday, July 21st, between bird watching trips the previous and following day. Sherri Ingles of Half Moon Bay Sport Fishing said, “It is absolutely crazy here with our three salmon boats returning with a combined 50 limits of salmon plus crew fish on Sunday while our rockfishing boat, the Queen of Hearts, also scored 31 limits of rockfish plus a few lingcod. The action has also been solid outside and inside of the harbor with halibut, thresher sharks, and salmon all making an appearance. “There are some huge rock crab coming off of the breakwater, and the only thing that could possibly make it better around here is the presence of albacore offshore. It has been wide open for everything,” she stated. - Dave Hurley MONTEREY BAY Lingcod, Rockfish Hit Off Lopez Point MOSS LANDING – Trips to both Point Sur and Lopez Point are yielding top-notch lingcod and rockfish action aboard the Kahuna. “We went down the coast on July 17 to Lopez Point with a great weather forecast,” said Carol Jones of Kahuna Sportfishing. “It didn’t disappoint, as we had a little wind chop here and there but overall good weather. We landed some nice vermillion, coppers, a few cabezon (surprisingly enough in deep water), big olives and some lingcod.” “The lingcod were not as impressive as we wanted and we had limits of rockfish, so we headed up the coast where we have been getting nice lingcod. We stopped there and finished up with some nice quality lingcod up to 21 pounds.’ The 21 anglers landed 42 lingcod, 2 cabezon, 42 canary rockfish, 59 copper rockfish, 15 assorted rockfish and 95 vermilion rockfish. The 24 anglers on the following trip on July 20 caught 48 lingcod and 240 rockfish, Jones reported. Then on July 21, two private charters aboard the Kahuna fished off Carmel.
