ROLLINS / SCOTTS FLAT cont. a fun trip, but I don’ t think the middle of summer is the best time for serious fishing at Rollins.” At Scotts Flat things are a little better.“ I fished Scotts Flat from my kayak this week. Ordinarily I would have fished Rollins, but boat traffic has been pretty heavy over there,” related Jason Pleece of Meadow Vista.“ I targeted bass at Scotts using a Ned Rig and ended up with about a dozen fish. I got a mix of smallmouths and largemouths. My top fish was a 2.5 pound largemouth.”
Catfish action has been steady for anglers soaking night crawlers and liver at Scotts Flat during the evening hours.
If you are looking for tackle or fishing information for a trip to Rollins, Scotts, Halsey Forebay or surrounding waters, Will Fish Tackle in Auburn has what you need. Will Fish Tackle is located at 11944 Masters Court in Auburn, Ca-( 530) 887- 0839.
SACRAMENTO AREA
Catfish Hitting In Local Sloughs
SACRAMENTO – Anglers are still picking up salmon at Discovery Park at the mouth of the American River, but the fishing has slowed down from opening week. Meanwhile, anglers are picking up good numbers of catfish in local sloughs.
“ The salmon fishing has dwindled over the past week,” said Uncle Larry Barnes of Sacramento Pro Tackle.“ A batch of fish moved into the area – and the went upriver with the increased flows on the Sacramento River.”
For the best success on salmon, troll with Flatfish or spinners from a boat or cast out Mepps Flying C and Blue Fox spinners from shore.
“ Shore anglers fishing Steelhead Creek and local sloughs are picking up channel catfish,” said Barnes..“ Fish the deep pockets with mackerel and other baits in the evenings. One angler reported getting a rod yanked out of his hand, probably a big catfish, in Steelhead Creek.”
Other good locations to target catfish include Lisbon Slough in the Yolo Bypass, the Port of Sacramento and Sacramento Deepwater Channel and Sutter Bypass. During the hot summer weather, fishing is best during the evenings and at night.

SAN PABLO RESERVOIR
Target Boat Ramp Area for Catfish
SACRAMENTO – Channel catfish offer the top fishing for anglers going to San Pablo Reservoir. The lake management stocked 1,000 pounds of catfish the week of July 30 at the boat ramp.
“ For the catfish, use anchovies, sardines, mackerel, chicken liver,” advised Marcella Shoemaker of the Rocky Mountain Recreation Company.“ The boat launch area has been producing the best fishing.” Crappie are also still biting.“ You will find the smaller ones from the shoreline,” Shoemaker tipped.“ For the big ones, try

“ At both Anderson and Calero you can’ t go wrong with either dragging a jig or tossing a finesse worm or plastic. Try drop shotting your clear water colors, or throw a small Keitech swimbait on a light jig head. Fish points and secondary points anywhere between 5 to 20 feet deep. Fish shallow in the mornings to where you can fish reaction baits too, but deeper during the day,” tipped Eric Tan.
