CAMANCHE LAKE
Bass Are Holding In Deep
Water
BURSON – Bass fishing has slowed
considerably with hot temperatures along
with smoky conditions and heavy boat
traffic. Recreational boating continues to
dominate at the lake, and the bass are in
deep water to 35 feet with plastics on the
drop-shot.
The jig bite has yet to emerge, but
it should take off within the next three
weeks. The reaction bite is slow.
Few trout trollers are working the lake,
but there are still holdover rainbows in
the main river channel towards the dam.
There is no gasoline available at either
marina at the present time as a leak
was detected in the North Shore Marina,
resulting in shutting off the pump to avoid
contamination of the lake.
In the interim period of time until the lake
drops enough to repair the pipe, there is
no gasoline available. The Mokelumne
River and Camanche Reservoir Cleanup
is Saturday, September 15, 2018, from
8:30 a.m. until Noon with a free BBQ
immediately following at Camanche South
Shore.
EBMUD will provide latex gloves, trash

Caples Lake Yields Improving
Rainbow and Mackinaw Bite
KIRKWOOD – A recent plant of 2,000
pounds of rainbow trout has perked up the
fishing at Caples Lake Resort.
“The fishing has improved at Caples,”
said Joe Voss of the Caples Lake
Resort. “Shore anglers are catching
rainbows while tossing out PowerBait,
nightcrawlers, spinners and spoons in the
Caples Creek and Woods Creek inlets, off
the spillway and near the dam. One shore
angler landed 4 trout yesterday while
fishing Purple PowerBait.”
Most of the rainbows are in the 10 to
14 inch class. However, boaters trolling
with worms behind Wedding Rings and
Speedy Shiners on the bottom have
picked up a couple of mackinaw in the 4
lb. class lately.
“The lake level has stabilized and is just
7.8 feet from maximum pool,” Voss said.
“The lake is in good shape. Also, the lake
has been smoke-free for the past three

RIO LINDA – While catfish are
providing the most consistent fishing
on the Sacramento River from Knights
Landing to Colusa, the salmon action is
starting to pick up as more fish move into
system from the ocean and bay.
“Some guides and anglers are picking
up some salmon while back trolling the
river from Ward’s Landing to Grimes,” said
Tim Boggs of Elkhorn Outdoor Sports.
”The fishing isn’t stellar yet, but the fish
being caught are fresh and the action is
better than it has been.”
