scholarships for the children and spouses of fallen warriors . The spokesman for New Jen said , “ It is with great pride for our country and gratitude for those that serve / have served it , that we say , “ thank you ” for allowing NewJen Bass to be part of this very special day . Also , thank you to this amazing group of anglers for coming out to support the Marine Reconnaissance Foundation .”
The lake dropped from 80 to 79 percent , and the recreational boat traffic has diminished .

bite is decent with plugs at Brown ’ s Island or with cut baits off of the Antioch Fishing Pier . There have even been a couple of salmon taken off of the Compy ’ s Pier this week .”
“ The stripers are also moving into the south Delta at Discovery Bay as the bait is moving around . A 15- to 18-pound sack will win most tournaments right now as a 3-pound average is about as good as it gets . Many fishermen are not adjusting to the conditions as the bass are moving out into deeper water .

EAGLE LAKE
Fall Conditions Start to Shape Up with Cold Overnight Temperatures
SPALDING - The surface temperature at Eagle Lake is falling in the southern basin and is currently holding around 67 degrees . This is a result of shorter days and cool overnight temperatures that dip down into the 30 ’ s .
These declining temperatures are causing the fish to move shallow early and then they move deeper as the water temperature rises . The trout are still concentrated , but as the temperature continues to decline they will eventually scatter .
As a general rule , the best trolling is taking place from 10 to 20 feet deep , but you can catch the occasional fish as deep as 30 feet . The oxygen level is best in the top 15 feet of the water column , so the rainbows are doing a balancing act between comfortable temperatures and a decent level of dissolved oxygen .
Most anglers are getting limits most days at this point . A variety of different lures are working . Topping the list for the fast trolling crowd are frog pattern Speedy Shiners and perch pattern Rapalas . If a fast approach isn ’ t working or if slow trolling is more your style , frog pattern Flatfish , threaded worms , Berkley Power Grubs and chub pattern flies will get the job done . It looks as if another epic fall fishing

along with heavy herbicide spraying and pelleting in the East Delta . The habitat for largemouth bass is changing with the lack of weeds in normal locations . Striped bass continue to move into the San Joaquin River system , and both trollers and bait fishermen are finding success for schoolie linesides .
Randy Pringle , the Fishing Instructor , was the tournament director of the Delta-Wine circuit event for Best Bass Tournaments , and he said , “ We had 106 boats experiencing a tough bite with the team of Dylan Waldroop and Kevin Mead taking first place at 18.65 pounds . The air temperature dropped 30 degrees , and there weren ’ t many big fish jumping in the boat . Tim Rodgers took the big fish of the tournament on a drop-shot in 15 feet of water fishing secondary points , and the winning team also scored with either topwater lures or plastics on the drop-shot off of flats with current .”
“ You really have to slow down right now , and the Max Scent products on the drop-shot , Texas-rig , or Zappu head are working best . A key is to stay in the strike zone as long as possible and make multiple casts to the same area ,” he said .
“ Fish the water you believe in , and don ’ t hesitate to keep casting to the same area . We found an excellent striped bass bite with 2.5-oz . P-Line Laser Minnows or the Optima Bubba Shad with a chartreuse tail on a ½-ounce jig head . The area on the San Joaquin from the mouth of the Mokelumne River west is holding the most stripers as the water is clear unless the wind is blowing .,” noted Pringle .
Dan Mathisen of Dan ’ s Delta Outdoors in Oakley said , “ The striper

FEATHER RIVER
River Anglers Battle Hard- Fighting Kings !
YUBA CITY – Anglers continue to hook some beautiful , bright chinook salmon on the Feather River below the Thermalito Afterbay Outlet .
“ On my latest trip , my deckhand and I caught our one fish limits of Chinooks by 6:15 a . m .,” said Rob Reimers of Rustic Rob ’ s Guide Service . “ Each fish we caught weighed about 15 pounds . We anchor fished with Brad ’ s Killer Fish .
“ Today was a good day on the Feather River ,” said Manuel Saldana Jr . of MSJ Guide Service after his latest trip on the Feather River below the outlet . “ Big C caught his first river king salmon ! I followed up with one as well by 8 AM . These kings are fresh and hot – and the meat is gorgeous . The months of September and October should be one to remember .”
Shore anglers and boaters can also target striped bass below Shanghai Rapids and Boyd ’ s Pump . Your best bet is to throw swimbaits and top water lures early and late in the day for schoolie fish measuring 18 to 24 inches long , along with an occasional larger striper .
