FRESHWATER REPORTS :

LAKE BERRYESSA cont .
again - one 2 = 1 / 4 lb smallie and several good spotted bass ,” Hemphill said .
Hemphill noted that ne needs to look for the bait if possible , as the bass will follow it around .
“ There are lots of bait balls but not as many bass around them as in normal years ,” he tipped . “ There are bass roaming that are not tied to the bait . We found a big school or bait in the morning , caught a few and then left . We came back in the afternoon - the bait was nowhere to be found .”
The water level at Berryessa is excellent - only dropping very slowly . “ We found a lot of worm fish as shallow as 30 feet , but 40 to 50 feet was the prime zone ,” Hemphill concluded . The water temperature was 76-79 degrees .”
Trout fishing has busted loose at Berryessa . “ Boaters are hooking Eagle Lake-strain rainbows in the 2 to 4 lb . range while trolling with Speedy Shiner lures at 60 to 75 feet in the main body ,” said Alan Fong of Fisherman ’ s Warehouse in Sacramento .
BULLARDS BAR / ENGLEBRIGHT RESERVOIRS
Kokanee Move into Spawning Pattern
SMARTVILLE - After many months of good fishing , the kokanee salmon action at Bullards Bar Reservoir has slowed down as the fish move up the Yuba River to spawn .
“ Some anglers reported catching several kokanee while trolling about a mile upriver from Garden Point ,’ said Craig Newton at Willifsh Bait and Tackle . “ As they went further upriver , they could see big schools of salmon on their graph , but the fish wouldn ’ t bite .”
“ Most of the fish you can expect to catch now will be two year old kokanee in the 13 inch range ,” tipped Newton . “ Anglers are fishing pink and orange hoochies and other lures , tipped with white corn , behind dodgers at 60 feet deep .”
“ The kokanee upriver are jumping out of the water , apparently as bass chase them , so now would be a good time to use a kokanee pattern swimbait to hook big spotted bass ,” he advised .
Bullards Bar is holding 639,822 feet of water , 66 percent of capacity and 101 percent of average .
Englebright is holding 66,540 acre feet of water , 95 percent of capacity and 105 percent of average .

LAKE CAMANCHE
Fishing Pressure Light for Trout and Bass
BURSON - Lake Camanche is in very good shape for this time of year – and fishing pressure is very light for black bass , trout , channel catfish and sunfish .
Camanche ’ s elevation was at 225.66 ′ and holding steady at 83 %. Lake Camanche was receiving approximately 350 C . F . S . while releasing approximately 344 C . F . S .
Pardee Lake was down to 97 % full at the time of this report .
Anglers continue to hook trout at Camanche , but they ’ re working harder to nail their limits . Lake Regular Robbie Dunham continues to hook rainbow trout while trolling in the deep water near the dam .”
We had another great day of fishing at Camanche on my last trip ,” said Dunham on Facebook . “ We even landed some nice bass .”
Kenn Cabuhat , Camanche employee and angler , reported success on bass while fishing the Trout Pond . He reported catching a 2 pounder on a Whopper Plopper and a smaller fish on a Texasrigged Beaver . “ Catches aren ’ t too big , but at least people will start to believe there more than trout in the pond ,” he stated . NOTICE : “ At this time and for the immediate future we are unable to sell or supply gasoline from the north shore marina due to maintenance work needed on the pipeline . No ETA was given . Gasoline is no longer available at the South Shore Marina until further notice .”

Rainbows Dominate Caples Lake Angling
KIRKWOOD – Trout fishing is expected to turn on as Caples Lake as the weather cools and fish become more active .
Most of the fish landed lately have been rainbows . Shane from Santa Clara caught 2 quality rainbows weighing up to 3-1 / 2 pounds while soaking PowerBait by the spillway , according to the Caples Lake Resort .
A recent plant of 2,000 pounds of rainbow trout boosted the fishing at Caples . Shore anglers are catching rainbows while tossing out PowerBait , nightcrawlers , spinners and spoons in the Caples Creek and Woods Creek inlets , off the spillway and near the dam .
Most of the rainbows are in the 10 to 14 inch class . However , boaters trolling with worms behind Wedding Rings and Speedy Shiners on the bottom can also expect to pick up a few mackinaw and browns this fall .
For stream fishing , your top prospect remains fishing spinners , spoons ,
