Anglers are now gearing up for the trout fishing season at the lake. Trout plants are expected to begin in mid to late October, depending on the water temperatures.

for producing a state or world record largemouth bass. The lake has the three characteristics needed to produce record class fish: Florida-strain genes; conditions that allow the fish to reach large size; and a good food source, particularly planted rainbows.
The lake also features good populations of redear sunfish, black crappie and bluegill, along with channel catfish. Fishing for all four species is best for boaters, float tubers and shore anglers in the spring, summer and fall.
Fishing at the family oriented facility, operated by the Rocky Mountain Recreation Company in conjunction with the Sacramento Municipal Utility District,( SMUD), is available year-round.

REDDING / RED BLUFF
North State Salmon Anglers Continue Hooking Up
REDDING-“ We have been getting salmon, but the fishing hasn’ t been red hot for me,” related Captain Mike Bogue of Mike Bogue’ s Guide Service.“ Most of the fish my clients have been getting are in the 15 to 20 pound range, but there are bigger fish around. We had a 35 pounder early in the week.”
“ I’ ve been fishing above Red Bluff and my lure of choice has been a T-55 Flatfish,” Bogue added.
Robert Weese of Northern California Guide Service has been fishing in both the Red Bluff and Woodson Bridge areas.
“ During the week, the Red Bluff area is fishing well, but there is a good deal of pressure up there on the weekend. On weekends, I’ ve been fishing near Woodson Bridge to avoid the pressure,” said Weese.
“ Early in the morning we are using plugs. That bite holds up for about 90 minutes. After that we switch over to spinning gear and start drifting with roe. We’ ve been getting limits most of the time on fish that range from 15 to 30 pounds,” Weese related.
If you want to fish the Sacramento River, both Robert Weese and Mike Bogue are top sticks when it comes to putting anglers on big bad kings and wild‘ bows. RIO VISTA
Take Your Pick of Stripers or Sturgeon
RIO VISTA- Striped bass continue to be a good bet for Delta anglers when winds lay down, while others gear up for the upcoming sturgeon season.
Plugging for striped bass was spotty this week, according to the pro anglers at Fisherman’ s Warehouse in Sacramento.
“ Earlier last month there was some big fish that moved in but now in September it’ s been slower with only a few pods of smaller fish,” said Alan Fong, manager.
“ Up in Liberty Island they’ re seeing a couple of blitzes of birds, bait and striped bass but most of them are between 15 to 17 inches. The other day one of our customers came through the same area and landed two fish, one seven pounds and another that was three pounds,” he related.
Sturgeon anglers were seen gearing up for the upcoming season.“ Usually the sturgeon fishing begins to ramp up during the last two weeks of September

ROLLINS / SCOTTS FLAT LAKES
Pop Bass With Poppers In Open Water
COLFAX-“ I’ ve been doing well at times while fishing Rollins Lake,” reported Jason Pleece of Meadow Vista.“ I think the bass should be on the bank, but they aren’ t. They are well off shore.”
“ I’ ve been getting spotted bass early in the morning on small River2Sea poppers fished in open water. I’ ve been cruising along looking for swirls. When I see them I move into position and cast I haven’ t caught anything over 13 inches, but topwater fish are always fun,” Pleece exclaimed.
“ Once the topwater bite stops it been fairly slow. I’ ve been able to catch some small spots and smallmouth bass on grubs on darter heads. On my last trip, I went far up the Bear River Arm and I saw a trout jump. I don’ t think we are too far away from some good fall trout fishing,” added Pleece.
At Scotts Flat bass are available on topwater plugs early and late in the day. While there have been no reports of trout action, there is a decent ongoing catfish bite for anglers tossing night crawlers and chicken liver.
If you are looking for tackle or fishing information for a trip to Rollins, Scotts, Halsey Forebay or surrounding waters, Will Fish Tackle in Auburn has what you need. Will Fish Tackle is located at 11944 Masters Court in Auburn, Ca-( 530) 887- 0839.
SACRAMENTO AREA
Striped Bass Congregate In Port, Deep Water Channel
SACRAMENTO – If you want to hook striped bass in the Port of West Sacramento and Sacramento Deep Water Channel, you need to follow the schools of threadfin shad.
“ There are a whole bunch of stripers moving around the port and channel as they chase the bait,” said Uncle Larry Barnes of Sacramento Pro Tackle.“ Most of the fish are from shaker-size to 5
