KLAMATH/TRINITY RIVERS
Fall Chinook Salmon Season
Begins
SACRAMENTO – The fall Chinook
fishery opened Aug. 15 in the Klamath
River and Sept. 1 in the Trinity River. The
basin in-river quota is 7,637 adult Chinook
Salmon for 2019.
Regulations will remain the same as in
2018 with a two-fish daily bag limit, with
no more than one fish over 22 inches
(such as one adult and one jack). The
possession limit remains the same at six
fish, with no more than three fish over 22
inches (effectively three daily bag limits).
Jerry Lampkin of TNG Motor Sports
Guide Service will begin fishing for fall
Chinooks in the lower Klamath on August
24.
“I just got back from a couple of weeks
at the mouth of the Klamath, and while
the fishing wasn’t stellar, we still managed
to get a few of the hard-fighting, football-
shaped spring salmon for the smoker,”
said Lampkin.
“The weather wasn’t half bad at a cool
65 degrees either, considering that the
temperature at home was up to 105
degrees. We’ll be back up on August 24
for the fall run, so look for some pictures
of some fatties up on my website if we can

NEW MELONES LAKE
Trollers Bag Early Limits of
Kokanee
ANGELS CAMP – Between New
Melones and Lake Berryessa, the
competition for the largest grade of
landlocked sockeye salmon in the state
continues, and New Melones is not
disappointing with kokanee approaching 3
pounds possible.
Monte Smith of Gold Country Sport
Fishing said, “We have been putting in
two limits of big kokanee by 9:30 a.m. at
the latest, and I have been weighing the
largest fish in the mix up to 2.5 pounds.
It is a matter of figuring out where the
kokanee are at as there are some big
schools to be found.”
“We had a nice breeze on Saturday
morning with a fog bank to the east, and
we took advantage of the cooler weather
to work away from the other boats with

depths from 50 to 75 feet. We didn’t even

be caught around the reservoir. South

“Trout are still being hooked by anglers
fishing PowerBait and nightcrawlers
in South Cove and Cowboy Cove,”
said Allain. “Anglers are catching and
occasional limit, but most are catching 1
to 2 fish per rod or none at all.”
