Sponsered by: Brad’s Pro Staff Sacramento Valley Salmon Reports HeadRush SportFishing - Chris Ditter As we say goodbye to an awesome summer, we say hello to the majestic Sacramento River king salmon. From here on out, anglers from all over the globe will be in search of these highly prized fish. King salmon are well known for being one of the hardest fighting fish we have in our inland waters. These fish will leave your heart pounding and wanting more. There are two techniques that I will cover that will help you put more fish in the boat. One of the most important things to do before you hit the water is getting everything prepped and ready to go. I pre tie all my leaders for months worth of fishing. This is really important because it saves me time on the water. If I get snagged up or run into some tangles, I can quickly switch out my leaders for new ones and get right back to fishing. Now that my leaders are tied up I am ready to hit the water. This time of year I love trolling the Brads Killer Fish K14’s. I will wrap them either with tuna or sardines that have been cured overnight with some of Pro Cures Bloodytuna in oil. If the K14’s are not working for me, I will switch over to the Brads superbaits and cut plugs. This technique is a fish catching machine. In order for the lure to get its erratic action, it must be trolled behind the This happy angler shows Pro-troll 11” flasher with the agitator fin on the back. I also believe the moon phase has a lot to do with the number of fish in the area. I think that the fish move on the full moons and we are scheduled to have a full moon on Saturday, September 14th. This should mean that more fish will be moving into the system and fishing should get really good soon. Long before I was on Brad’s Pro staff I was using Brads lures. I like them because they have the Brightest most vivid colors on the market. They’re coming up with new colors all the time, like the Double Glow color in the Killer- Fish, which was my favorite lure last year. It was almost automatic first thing in the morning. I only had the one test lure brads had sent me, and when I lost it on a big fish I almost cried crocodile tears. This year you can get them in your local bait shop. So far this year the hot color KillerFish is the Gator. It has some candy apple green on the side, chartreuse on both ends and some tiger stripes on the side. A long with my old stand by the Dragon Fly II, these two lures are a real knock out. Brad’s KillerFish produced At the end of September I’ll be moving down to Sacra- a nice fish for one of Rustic mento to do some metro fishing with the Brad’s cut plugs. BareBones Guide Service – Brett Brady Brett has been fishing the Feather River for the last couple of weeks and fishing has been consistent. He is putting fish in the boat every trip out but it hasn’t been wide open like he expects it to get in the next few weeks. On Wednesday, September 11th, he had a consistent bite as well. His clients were able to put a fish in the boat first thing in the morning. It wasn’t until late morning when we found a stretch of the river that was producing a bite or two every drift. He ended the day around 11:30 am or so with limits for three anglers that were on the boat. The six salmon that we caught we really clean and Brett mentioned that he thought a couple of them were probably only in the river system for a few days. When the fish are this fresh they are great fighters. Pulling drag and making several runs made catching these fish a lot of fun. Not to mention theyt caught a nice 12 pounder and 15 pounder that looked like they were caught in the ocean. Brett Brady caught this Brett plans to fish both the Feather River and Sacramento River this Fall.
