Coyote Reservoir, now 20 percent of
capacity, is also producing good numbers
of hand-size crappie. “Anglers are picking
them up while fishing small jigs in the
evenings,” said Bradford.
“Bass fishing at Calero has been good,”
said Bradford. “As the fall pattern sets in,
expect to see bigger bass.”
Use drop shot rigs, Senkos and jigs in
the back end of the lake, she advised.
Fish up to 6 pounds have been reported
there, but most are much smaller.
Shore fishermen targeting stripers at
San Luis Reservoir are experiencing
solid fishing while using jumbo minnows,
pileworms and bloodworms off the points.
“Boaters fishing top water lures such
as Zara Spooks and 6 Sense Mad Dog
lures in the early morning hours have
reported landing stripers to 35 inches in
the early morning and evening hours,”
said Bradford. “Most of the fish anglers
are reporting now are keepers.”
O’Neill Forebay and Check #12 are
producing stripers at night and the
afternoons when the water is coming
into the reservoir. Shore fishermen

anchovies and shad.

from time to time reels. Gear comes in and gear goes
out. We have staple items, but our inventory changes
on a regular basis. Since systematic fishing is one of
the cornerstones of my philosophy the store is packed
with various lure kits. Let’s take a look at some of our
cornerstone items.
Trigger Spoons
Spoons are a central piece of any trout troller’s arsenal.
My Trigger Spoons are as good as any spoon on the
market and better than most, why?
First of all, they are versatile in terms of the speeds you
can effectively troll them. 2 to 2.5 mph is the sweet spot,
but they perform well at speeds as low as 1.6 mph and up
to and beyond 3 mph.
At 2 ¼ inches long and ½ inch wide they are big
enough to interest trophy size trout and kings, but small
enough not to intimidate pansize fish.
In shape and action, the spoons do an outstanding job
of imitating threadfin shad and pond smelt, two primary
forage items at many lakes.
Colors are always a consideration when it comes to
spoon selection. I advocate running metallic patterns at
lakes that feature a baitfish forage base and bright bold
colors at bug lakes. I also like to have a black spoon for
use during the low light periods of dusk and dawn and
on overcast days.
My 6 spoons set of Trigger Spoons covers the entire
spectrum of colors needed to hook fish at most any lake.
On the metallic side you’ll find chrome, copper and
hammered brass. On the bright color side, I feature hot
orange/chrome back and hot pink/chrome back models
and for low light situations there is a midnight black/
chrome back spoon.
All spoons come equipped with a premium red treble
and a large strike producing eye.
I named them Trigger Spoons because they Trigger
strikes from predatory fish. I’ve caught rainbow and
brown trout on them, king salmon, bass, crappie and
catfish while pulling them.

Trolling Flies
Over the past few years I’ve become a big believer
in trolling flies. Trout don’t see flies as often as they
see spoons and minnow plugs. As a result, trolling
flies are a great tool for landing trophy trout.
I spent a lot of time putting together a 10 fly kit that
encompasses flies of various shapes and colors for
both imitating baitfish and for trigger reaction strikes.
Just in the last month, my flies have produced trout to
3 pounds from a diverse list of lakes including Lake
Shasta and Lake Davis.
In addition to 10 flies my trolling fly kits include a
compartment box and Action Discs.
Trigger Grub & Shad Tube Kits
Soft plastics occupy and important spot in my
tackle arsenal. Soft plastics like my Trigger Grubs
and Shad Tubes can be trolled across a spectrum
of different speeds, they offer a great baitfish like
silhouette, they feel real when fish grab them and
they are well suited for use with Pro-Cure Super Gel
scents.
Both my Shad Tubes and Trigger Grubs come
in sets of 25 encompassing 5 different colors and
include a pair of either signature series Diamond
Back or Mini Sidewinder Dodgers.
Rods, Rods Rods
Currently we are featuring three rods, a two piece
leadcore specific trolling rod, an 8-foot Striper
Halibut Salmon Rod and a three piece 7-foot ultra-
light spinning rod combo that comes balanced with
an awesome little spinning reel.
All of these rods perform exceptionally well and are
offered at very reasonable prices!
We have more rods in development right now,
including my signature series downrigger rods, which
we are hoping to have in stock by the spring of 2020!
