Rick Powers of Bodega Bay Sport
Fishing said, “ I am planning to hunt
down some lingcod this week as they
have been on the chomp, with limits
of both big rockfish and lingcod for
large loads in the past few weeks, and
I am hoping for a tuna run sometime
next week. The water is still there,
and I know the fish are still holding
in the warm water. It was gorgeous
weather on Thursday.”
Second Captain Merlin Kolb of the
Reel Magic has been hanging around
the reef off of Bird Rock, and he put
his clients onto limits of rockfish and
a few lings on Saturday as the lings
were more reluctant to bite in the big
swell.
Both the New Sea Angler, the Reel
Magic , and the Take Five out of North
Bay Charters will start Dungeness
crab/rockfish combination trips on
November 2nd, and the bookings are
starting to fill up, particularly on the
weekends.

Jacky Douglas, Captain of the
Wacky Jacky, reported the fishing was
spotty as the season neared its end
on October 31, with 5 salmon the top
party boat score on Saturday, October
26. The final day of salmon fishing
aboard the Wacky Jacky was October
30.
The kings were hitting trolled
anchovies along the Marin County
Coast from the Duxbury Buoy to
Double Point at 35 to 40 feet deep.
The fish are 12 pounds and up, with
larger fish in the 25 lb. range showing.

Mattusch said they are filled on the
crab opening weekend, and their first
weekend opening is on November
30, but there is plenty of room during
the week including Veteran’s Day
on Monday, November 11. The
commercial crab season is expected
to open, and the commercial crab
catch represents 98 percent of the total
biomass taken on an annual basis.
The threat to commercial crab
anglers remains whale entanglement,
and two whales entangled could shut
down the commercial season. There
are some strange things going on
in the ocean as there are loads of
anchovies, but the sardines have been
absent in the warmer water conditions.
Squid has also been scarce with the
commercial fishermen only bringing
in a few tons out of the 118,000 ton
quota.
Inside the harbor, shore fishermen
were lining up near the bathrooms to
“floss” for salmon prior to the salmon
closure on October 31 and the game
warden was on high alert to cite those
who are hooking
