Kelsch reported , “ This morning I had Luke , his son Jackson , and my nephew Mason on board for a kokanee trip . To say we knocked it out would be an understatement . We caught limits in 2 hours and we lost 15 to 20 fish . We found a school of some larger grade fish today as well . This was the first time fishing for kokes for all 3 of them , and I think they are hooked .” “ Afterwards I did my signature lap thru my brown / rainbow waters and we picked up 2 bonus rainbows and headed to the barn well before the heat set in . The kokes didn ’ t want anything erratic today , so Paulina Peak clown and orange hoochies and spinners dominated the catches behind Peak performer dodgers in a variety of colors from 20 to 60 ft . The trout took down Trinidad Tackle Optomizers ,, one on the surface and one at 38 ft ., so they still are scattered all over still ,” he concluded . Trout plants continue at Lake Pardee . The latest plant featured 2,000 pounds of Mt . Lassen rainbow trout on July 14 . Big rainbow honors go to Mila and Julie from Sacramento , who teamed up to catch a 5.36 lb . rainbow on Power Bait . Big brown honors go to Sir Gay , who landed a 9.69 lb . brown while trolling a Wedding Ring from his boat . Bass fishermen continue to catch a mixture of largemouth and smallmouth bass while fishing plastic worms , drop shot rigs , swimbaits and jerkbaits at Pardee . Lake Pardee is holding 204,703 acre feet of water , 100 percent of capacity and 106 percent of average .

Rainbow Trout Are Gorging On Shad And Getting Big

SHASTA LAKE - Shasta Lake is sitting around 19 ’ to crest and 84 ° in the morning in the main body . We are currently seeing shad balls around 45 ’ and being pushed all the way to the surface . Rainbows are gorging themselves on shad and bass fry . They ’ re really starting gain weight and getting fat and we are catching a 3lb fish every day . On average the fish are running about 1.5 to 2lbs and they are very feisty and sometimes very difficult to land . We are finding fish in 45 ’ -55 ’ of water and even though we are encountering many short strikes we are still averaging 8-10 fish each day .

Jennifer was fishing the California Delta and was using a spinnerbait when she landed these two huge bass .
