SHASTA LAKE
Fesity Browns Are Biting
Shasta Lake - Great news for Shasta lake we ’ re sitting around 23 ’ to crest and 50 degrees .. Browns are just starting to really get going and we are finding most of them up the arms right now . It is important to use a variety of baits since on some days we are catching them on small spoons and on other days we are catching them on stick baits . Also , rolling an anchovy has produced some fish as well . Normally , I would suggest running the shoreline but we ’ ve been getting browns in the middle of the lake . I ’ ve found going over the old riverbed along with some of the underwater mountains to be pretty successful . This has also been super effective for rainbows as well . The bite has been inconsistent as far as time of day goes . We have found that on some days the bite starts around 10am and only lasts about a half hour . Then , it takes hours for them to get active again . The afternoon has proven to be the most productive time of day . Recently , we haven ’ t caught a lot of big fish but we are landing some decent sized fish that are pretty feisty . Be careful out on the lake because it has a lot of debris in the lake and the lake level is fluctuating . Also , remember at this time of year the wind can change quickly .

TRUCKEE / LITTLE TRUCKEE RIVERS
River Is In Great Shape For Fishing
TRUCKEE - The Truckee River is currently in great shape after last week ’ s weather and is only about 50 CFS higher than it was prestorm . This , in-and-of-itself , will do little to change the fishing . But the drop in water temps it brought with it will mix things up a bit compared to the sunny “ false spring ” conditions of last week . With the warmer days ahead , we should see these temps slowly climb , but as for this week , we recommend fishing the slower tailouts and side water of deep buckets thoroughly , and dissecting any good winter runs carefully . These fish are not yet sitting in anything faster than walking speed , and often we have been finding them at more of a crawling speed . This water will not often require a lot of weight to get you down , and using less weight can be advantageous to avoid getting hung up of the bottom . Recently we have been primarily using unweighted flies fished under our indicators with only a bit of split-shot . Doing this will make your flies present more naturally and keep them from wedging into rocks or snags . While we have also been usisome smaller bead head mayfly and midge patterns , usually these
