caught her trout fishing from the rental

There’s also still bass activity scattered
around the lake. Sammie & PJ from San
Francisco (not pictured) report 4 bass and
a redear sunfish caught on “Mega Bass
Worms” in Elmer’s cove.
I’ve also heard about several good sized
catfish most caught on chicken livers and
one 5lb fish caught on PowerBait Cheese
& Liver Catfish Bait.
Topping the charts is James & Christine

PORTOLA – Bank anglers are landing
some hefty rainbow trout while fishing
Power Bait and nightcrawlers in Mallard
Cove on Lake Davis.
One woman caught two beautiful
rainbows while soaking rainbow
PowerBait with garlic scent off Mallard
Cove. One fish measured 27 inches
and weighed 5 pounds, while the other
measured 24 inches and weighed 4-1/2
pounds, reported Jim Graham at the J&J
Grizzly Country Store and Campground
Resort.
“While anglers are catching some big
fish from shore at Mallard, you need to be
patient,” said Graham. “The surface water
temperature has risen to 62 degrees.”
Trollers are finding the most consistent
action on trout at Lake Davis now. They’re
using red dot frog Needlefish, copper/
red head Dick Nites and blue/green Baby
Simons.
“The CDFW planted another 4,000
pounds of trout last Friday and they
stocked 3,500 pounds of German browns
this week,” said Graham.
Largenouth bass fishing is shifting into
high gear. “Anglers are bagging bass
averaging 12 to 14 inches and going up to
2-1/2 pounds while fishing plastic worms,
jigs and other lures in Mosquito Slough,”
said Graham.
Davis Lake is holding 68,009 acre feet
of water, 82 percent of capacity and 103
percent of average.

Get Ready for the
Striper Boils!
LIVERMORE – The lake
temperature has been in
the upper 70s and has
surpassed 80 on a few
occasions. These high
temperatures are causing
the shad to spawn, so we
are seeing a lot of shad
activity in the early morning.
And where you find shad,
you’ll likely to find striped
bass!
The striped bass fishing
is finally coming back to life
as the water temperatures
heat up. We expect to start
seeing striper boils all over
the lake in the coming
weeks. For now, the main
way to hook into them is
using anchovies or sardines.
