A Senko is always a go-to rig during the spring months and can be fished on a variety of presentations,” Liechty tipped.
Big fish honors go to Bob Schaefer, who caught a giant 9-pound largemouth.
“ The trout bite picked up quite a bit this past week for the anglers who are on the water trolling for them,” said Liechty.“ The lake is getting closer to full each week”
“ Trolling anglers are straying away from traditional trout lures and using some of the brightly colored kokanee lures to catch trout,” he noted.“ Try using hoochies that have a lot of action. When trolling multiple lines, be sure to drop at least one down to the 30’ to 40’ range to catch those giant kokanees we hope to see this year.”
‘ The giant catfish in New Melones are starting to move into shallow water,” tipped Liechty.“ The temperature continues to rise and the fish will become more active as it does. A massive ball of nightcrawlers on a treble hook should tempt these giants into biting.” New Melones Lake is currently

holding 1,980,930 acre-feet. It is currently at 1050 ft. above sea level and 38 ft. from full. On the surface is some floating debris which will increase as you travel upriver.
LAKE OROVILLE
Spotted Bass Move Into Shallows
CHICO— Few anglers have reported targeting landlocked king salmon at Lake Oroville lately, but boaters are experiencing“ decent” fishing for spotted bass, reported Joe Bitker of the Tackle Box.
“ The bass have moved into the top 15 feet of water in the coves,” said Bitker.“ They’ re hitting Robo Worms on drop shot rigs, as well as spinnerbaits and crankbaits.”
Most of the fish are in the 12 to 16 inch range, along with a few bigger fish. He recommended fishing the South Fork and the main body for the best success on bass.
Bob Boucke at Johnson’ s Bait and Tackle in Yuba City said 90 percent of local anglers are concentrating on striper fishing

There is a lot of floating debris and logs throughout the lake, so be careful when launching a boat and driving a boat around the lake.
The lake was holding 2,812,242 acre-feet of water, 79 percent of capacity and 99 percent of average, at press time. The water level is 850.29 feet above sea level, 49.17 feet from maximum pool.

PARDEE LAKE
Trollers Start Bagging Kokanee Salmon
IONE— The popular kokanee salmon are finally starting to show at Lake Pardee.
“ Stay shallow, roughly under 20 feet deep,” advised Kaitlyn McCroskey of Pardee Lake Recreation.“ Like the trout, they like the shiny gold and silver Apex or Mini-Apex lure. said,“ Pardee regular Jeff Geiszle, his side kick Hannah and friend Tony Benzinger put in
( based on 125 anglers)
20 kokanee and 2 rainbow trout using a modified Apex lure at from the surface to 20 feet. It looks like it is going to be a great kokanee year!”
Bank anglers are experiencing the top rainbow trout fishing at Stony Creek Landing and Blue Heron Point. PowerBait, nightcralwers and grubs are the top baits.
She advised boaters,“ You will find the trout all over right now, but you can try the Narrows and the south end to start. The mouth of the river is always popular. Again,

PowerBait is working well, as are grubs. Keep your flashers bright and / or shiny and don’ t go deeper than 30 to 35 feet deep.”
The lake is 92 percent of capacity and the water level is improving.
PYRAMID LAKE
Late Showing Of Big Cutthroats
RENO— In a normal year, as April comes to a close, so does the Lahontan Cutthroat Trout’ s invasion of the shallows at Pyramid Lake. Over the last ten or so days some of the best action of the season has been underway.
At least three fish from 20-24 pounds have been landed, and a few others in the high teens have been reported. It’ s likely due to the unsettled windy and cloudy weather that has continued to blow through
3606 the area. These big fish have almost exclusively been caught by fly fishermen fishing off of ladders from the beach. This proves that the biggest of the big are still patrolling the shallows looking to feed.
This bite should already be winding down, but the lake is only 49 degrees at the moment. Normally the shallows would be getting up into the high fifties or even the sixties by now, and this would queue the trout that the spawn should be tapering off.
With all of the ice-cold snow melt entering the lake it would appear that the spawning period may run a little late this year. It is likely to assume that some sunny 80-degree days in the Western Great Basin may cause the fish to vacate and head out deeper.
The best options at this time are either nymphing with Pyra-midges and Maholo’ s under a bobber, or retrieving wooly buggers right along the
